Mind Over Matter Defined

Article by Amelia Traverne

The expression 'mind over matter' promotes the belief that the human mind is the most powerful force in the universe.

This is undoubtedly true since starting from concentration to willpower that is used for self development, from bearing pain by focusing your mind elsewhere to even moving matter with the power of thoughts, everything is possible if a human mind so desires as expression by the idiom 'Mind over matter'.

Psychokinesis can be termed as one psychic extreme of such mind over matter phenomenon. In simple terms it refers to the psychic ability of a person to move physical objects with the power of his/her thoughts. Suppose you are hungry and your mind had the power to make the bread fly out from the refrigerator and into your hands? Sounds too good isn't it?

Telekinesis happens to be the first term that was coined in 19th century to denote such paranormal activities which were thought to be the doings of spirits and ghosts. However, research and experiments by parapsychologists led to the awareness of the role played by the human mind in this for which the term Psychokinesis was termed later on.

Such phenomenon can be measured and categorized into two groups - Micro psychokinesis and Macro psychokinesis. While the former involves small movement in matter that can only be seen with the help of scientific instruments, the latter refers to bigger movements that can be seen by ordinary eyesight.

Less extreme paranormal element to this phrase involves mind centric subjects of spirituality or philosophy where the concept of 'responsibility assumption' plays a crucial role.

The concept of mind over matter plays an important role in personal growth studies especially in case of responsibility assumption where it is said that the responsibility of the quality of t he life you lead is ultimately on you. In essence, it proposes that you your destiny is only a function of your own mind and its thoughts.

Apart from this, concepts like the law of attraction or! affirma tions are also part of the new age spirituality that focuses around the concept of mind over matter.

The law of attraction states that if your mind focuses its attention on an object of desire and truly believes that it will come true with constant visualization of the final achieved state along with constant affirmation to the subconscious mind, then your mind power will affect the cosmos and ultimately result in the manifestation of the object of your want in reality.

There has been many in our world who have claimed to possess psychokinetic abilities.

One example was Martin Caidin who could rotate energy wheels kept on multiple table tops.

While Uri Geller, an Israeli was famous for spoon bending techniques, the alleged Soviet psychic Nina Kulagina also appears in several short black and white films demonstrating such mind over matter psychokinetic activities.

Felicia Parise again was another person worthy of mention who became quite a celebrity for her powers in psychokinesis. An American laboratory technician by profession, she was able to move matters like compass needles, pill containers and aluminum foil with her mind. In the beginning such abilities came to her spontaneously but inspired with Nina Kulagina's films, she used intense focus and concentration to develop the powers to work at her will.

Infact, she was also tagged as America's first to move matter with mind in the tabloid National Enquirer. She retired from such performance when allegedly such demonstrations caused her bodily stress.

Coming to more remote places of the world and talking about the psychokinetic ability existence there that may not be easily researchable by scientific means, mention must be made of Himalayas, the great mountain range in India which is known as the centre of positive energy and spirituality of the ancient East. Rare individuals, sadhus and monks renounce the whole world and live here in the pursuit of the highest form of self realization.

Such people and th! eir psyc hokinesis and other miraculous feat demonstrations can be witnessed by others during the famous Indian pilgrimage to the holy river Ganges called Kmbh Mela (once a year), Ardh Kumbh Mela (Once in six years) and the great purna Kumbh mela (once in twelve years).

Thus, the human mind power can achieve anything in everything in life. It is something with which you can move objects physically or even attract what you want in life from the cosmos. You can create, control and change things or even create your own destiny with the power of your thoughts, faith, belief, concentration and visualization.
