The phrase mind over matter promotes the theory that the human mind is more powerful than the body and it has the strength to influence any matter that it so desires.

Infact, starting from the power of concentration, using willpower for improvement of self, focusing your mind elsewhere to free it from intense pain to even moving actual objects with thoughts, all are sub elements of this expression.

The extreme situation where mind has complete control over an external physical matter and can influence it and physically move it, is known as psychokinesis. Considered as a rare psychic ability, this involves moving tables, chairs or other objects just by the sheer power of your thoughts.

This paranormal phenomenon was researched by parapsychologists in the 19th century in order to study the degree to which human mind was responsible for moving matter from one place to another with the power of thoughts. At first when the reasons were attributed to ghosts and spirits it was coined Telekinesis while later on when the human mind power came into the scene it was coined psychokinesis.

Micro psychokinesis and macro psychokinesis are two ways of measurement of this extreme mind over matter phenomenon. While the former refers to very small atomic level changes in matter only perceptible through scientific equipments, the latter involves physical movement of large objects which can be seen with the naked eye.

'Mind over matter' as a statement also has a lesser extreme 'responsibility assumption' version of it where it is extensively used. This is in context of more mind centric subjects such as the philosophy or spirituality.

Responsibility assumption is essentially all about vesting the responsibility of your future life on your own self proposing that one's destiny is nothing but the function of his own mind.

Recent spiritual awakening in the last decade also has laws such as Laws of Attraction, etc talking in the same direction.

The Laws of attraction states! that if you have an object of desire which you want to see manifested in your life, then direct your entire attention, energy and focus on it and feel the energy waves leaving you and charging up the vision. If you have complete faith that it will happen, and rid your mind of all negative thoughts in order to receive the event when it manifests actually, you will see that you can create your own destiny with your mind power.

Claims to psychokinesis are countless in this world and we shoud mention just a few of them.

Martin Caidin , the author of the 1972 novel 'Cyborg' claimed to be able to cause movements in "energy wheels" kept on single or multiple small table tops with the power of his mind.

An Israeli man named Uri Geller was also noted for his spoon bending techniques while an alleged Soviet psychic Nina Kulagina made many black and white short films where she was seen to demonstrate psychokinetic actions.

Felicia Parise, an American laboratory technician became a celebrity for her psychokinesis powers with which she could move objects like compass needles, plastic pill containers and aluminum foil. First experienced spontaneously she developed her abilities with intense concentration later on becoming inspired by Nina Kulagina's films.

She was also stated by a tabloid to be the First American to move matter with her mind. She finally left such demonstrations since it took a toll on her physically.

Coming down to the most spiritually advanced place in the world, the great mountain range of the Himalayas in India, Nepal and Tibet, one can say that this vast place radiates with positive energy and hence is called the seat of spirituality in the ancient East. Sadhus and monks who renounce everything that is worldly reside here in the nooks and corners spending their lives in harnessing the powers of the mind and being experts at it.

Psychokinesis demonstrations can be witnessed openly in events such as the Kumbh Mela in India. A world famous pilgrimage of the Hindus ! that tak es place once a year (Kumbh Mela), Once in six years (Ardha Kumbh Mela) and Once in twelve years (Purna Kumbh Mela), it is when the great souls come down from the mountains to take a dip in the holy waters of the Ganges.

It can be concluded that be it moving physical matter or manifesting desired events in one's life, almost anything and everything can be controlled, created, influenced or changed in the way you want to, with the power of your mind. With the tools of your thoughts, concentration, energy or faith, and a belief in the phrase 'mind over matter' you can create your own destiny.
