This famous Gompa was founded in 17th century and belongs to Drukpa order. Annually held Hemis Festival is one another attraction of this famous Buddhist monastery in Ladakh.

Thiksey Gompa: Located at the distance of 20 km from Leh, Thiksey is an impressive monastery in the region. It is considered as one of the finest examples of Ladakhi art & architecture. Sited atop a hill this famous monastery contains several stupas, statues, thankas, swords, and wall paintings. There is a large pillar in the complex of this Gompa engraved with the Buddha's teachings.

Spituk Gompa: The Spituk Monastery is sited on the hill top near the River Indus. It is located at the short distance of around 18 kilometers from Leh. The Spituk Festival is held every year at the complex of this famous Buddhist monastery.

Lamayuru Monastery: Located at the distance of about 125 kilometers west of Leh, the Lamayuru Monastery is the oldest and magnificent Buddhist Gompa in the region. On the 28th and 29th days of the ! 2nd Tibe tan month, the Yundrung Kabgyad festival is held.

Phyang Gompa, Likir Gompa, Alchi Monastery, Namgyal Tsemo Gompa, Shanti Stupa, Shey Palace, Stok Palace, Zongkhul Monastery, Sankar Gompa, etc are some other worth visiting Buddhist monasteries of Leh Ladakh India.
